It is a very exciting time for us at the Mackenzie District Council.  We are on a transformational journey, and we have an amazing opportunity for a highly motivated strategic thinker to add to our existing spatial planning expertise and take delivery to the next level and become part of Team Mack.

The newly created role of Principal Policy Planner – District Plan will build on the existing programme management, reporting, and governance systems for the District Plan review.  You will be involved in allocating current and future programme of works, scheduling District Plan and place-based stakeholder engagements, public consultation, and hearings as well as overseeing the implementation of the Resource Management related initiatives arising from the Council’s Land Strategy.

To be successful as our Principal Policy Planner – District Plan you will have:

  • 7-10 years experience in a similar role.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification(s) in planning/resource management, or other relevant degree with demonstrable experience.
  • Be a member of the NZ Planning Institute or eligibility for full membership.
  • Experience in in working with the community in partnership to achieve outcomes.
  • 10 years of Local Government experience desirable and / or working within a complex environment.
  • Knowledge of the Local Government Act and other relevant legislation.
  • Knowledge of and respect for the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi.
  • An in-depth understanding of Health and Safety legislation.

We know that’s probably just the beginning of your skills, experience, and knowledge but it gives you an overview of some of the skills and abilities needed to nail it as our Principal Policy Planner – District Plan.

This is a full time, permanent role (37.5 hours per week) based in Fairlie, South Canterbury.
