Emergency Management Officer - Fairlie, South Canterbury

Permanent, Full Time (40 hours per week)

We are now searching for an experienced and highly skilled Emergency Management Officer to manage and coordinate the Mackenzie District Council Civil Defence response and support the wider South Canterbury district. The role will be based out of the Fairlie office.

This role is a critical and integral part of not just the Council but the community as well. You will be the centre point for leading Civil Defence related activities and initiatives, to ensure the Mackenzie District is best prepared for emergencies. This role will require you to have demonstrable experience working with regional and national Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) strategies, plans and guidelines.

A successful candidate for this Emergency Management Officer role will have:

• A comprehensive understanding of key local government Civil Defence and Emergency Management legislation and policies, including Civil Defence Emergency Management Act 2002
• Operational experience using Coordinated Incident Management System (CIMS) is desirable
• Experience and confidence to provide training for CDEM response and recovery roles
• The availability to be on-call 1 week per month (for after-hours duty) in conjunction with Timaru and Waimate District Councils
• A diploma or post graduate Diploma in Emergency Services Management, or relevant Emergency Management experience
• Excellent communication and strong relationship building skills
• The ability to perform under high pressure situations, be well organised and have sound professional judgment
