Senior Building Control Officer – Fairlie, South Canterbury

We are on the hunt for an experienced Senior Building Control Officer to join our team. This could be an important step on a journey that could see you living and working in this amazing and iconic part of Aotearoa!
Senior BCO works within the wider Building Control Team and plays a key part in ensuring compliance with the Building Act 2004, NZ Building Code and other relevant legislation whilst mentoring and leading our Building Control Cadets through their development of competencies and day to day workload. Further to this the Senior BCO will be responsible for carrying out the following activities:
- Processing and assessing building consent applications.
- Conducting inspections and certifying building work.
- Providing advice to customers, administrative team, builders, and developers.
- Supporting compliance efforts, including Building Warrants of Fitness and enforcement activities.
- Assisting with the Council’s accreditation and regulatory responsibilities.
- Maintaining current competencies

To be successful in the role of Senior Building Control Officer, you will need:
- Regulation 18 qualification or other appropriately recognised Regulation 18 qualification.
- R1-R3 and C1-C2 processing/inspections competencies and C3 processing / inspections (or currently working towards C3 processing / inspections).
- Evidence of the Building Act, Building Regulations, Building Code, Legislation and inspection, consenting and certification processes.
- Evidence of Territorial Authority processes.
- Proven experience in team leadership, mentoring, or people management
- Familiarity with general computer systems.
- Written and verbal skills commensurate with generating correspondence for and engaging in verbal / written discussions with building owners and trade professionals.
- Full driver’s license is essential.
