About the Role
The Resource Management Compliance Officer plays a pivotal part in ensuring compliance with MDC’s District Plan and resource consent conditions. This role works with communities in the Mackenzie District, resource consent holders, and stakeholders to facilitate positive outcomes for the district. Our Councillors have requested this new role to increase our current regulatory compliance staff resources.
Key responsibilities include:
· Researching, investigating and implementing necessary compliance or enforcement actions to ensure positive outcomes in response to potential breaches of the District Plan or the Resource Management Act.
· Managing and investigating related public enquiries and complaints.
· Overseeing, supporting and completing monitoring activities for resource consents, including regular and ongoing assessments of consent conditions.
· Educating and informing landowners and consent holders on their requirement to comply with the District Plan and consent conditions.
· Ensuring Council is keeping up to date with industry best practice methods, and process improvement opportunities are identified and implemented.
About You
Ideally you will have a tertiary qualification in resource management or similar, and at least five years’ experience in monitoring and enforcement – or demonstrated equivalent experience. You will have a strong understanding of the RMA as well as excellent relationship and communication skills.
You will also have:
· Preferably, experience working in local government
· Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively and confidently interact with the public
· Demonstrated experience in database management and administration, and working with Microsoft Office
· Proven ability to work well in a team and autonomously
· A full, valid driver’s licence
