About the Role
We are looking for a Regulatory and Compliance Officer to join our Regulatory team at Mackenzie District Council. The Regulatory and Compliance team are responsible for ensuring those in the Mackenzie District are complying with relevant bylaws and legislation by seeking to maximise compliance from the adverse effects of issues covered by our obligations including health, animals, noise, littering, and a significant emphasis on freedom camping.
This is a diverse role that will see you out in the district looking into regulatory and compliance concerns as well as in the office taking care of the administration side of things so the ability to adapt as needed is a must.
Responsibilities Include:
· Regularly undertake patrols and inspections and ensure that all relevant documentation is completed to enable the appropriate enforcement action to be undertaken when required.
· Undertake functions and responsibilities of an Authorised Officer under relevant Acts to respond as appropriate to any compliance and regulatory concerns, including concerns relating to animal and stock control, noise control, responsible camping and parking, and littering and illegal dumping.
· Provide education to the public relating to regulatory and compliance concerns.
· Respond to complaints and investigate compliance with District Plan requirements.
· Maintain accurate and detailed records of all monitoring and enforcement actions undertaken.
About You
You will have:
· At least 3 years’ experience working in an enforcement role within a regulatory environment.
· NZ Certificate in Regulatory Compliance (Core Knowledge) (Level 3-4) or equivalent training in compliance/enforcement.
· Previous experience within a monitoring and enforcement type role and experience within animal control and animal management is preferred.
· Knowledge of relevant Acts including (advantageous):
o Health Act 1956
o Dog Control Act 1996
o Freedom Camping Act 2011
o Resource Management Act 1991
· Ability to interact with the public in often complex and emotional situations where a high-level of emotional intelligence is required.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills with confidence in interacting with a range of different stakeholders.
· A valid, full drivers’ licence
